Sports Massage & Soft Tissue Therapy
Soft tissue work in physiotherapy involves hands-on techniques to treat muscles, ligaments, tendons, fascia and your brain! Sports massage is a specialised form of massage therapy tailored to the needs of active individuals. Soft tissue therapy and sports massage can reduce pain and swelling; improve circulation and improve range of movement at joints and enhance muscle function.

Joint Mobilisation
Joint mobilisation is a manual therapy technique used by Physiotherapists. It involves applying controlled forces to a joint to move it in specific directions, which helps in restoring normal movement patterns.

Neuromuscular Stimulation
We use Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES), which is a therapeutic technique that uses electrical impulses to stimulate muscle contractions. This is used to aid in muscle strengthening, injury recovery, and pain management. NMES involves placing electrodes on the skin over targeted muscles. These electrodes deliver electrical impulses that mimic the action potentials from the central nervous system, causing the muscles to contract. NMES is a safe and therapeutic technique which we will often use in conjunction with early strengthening exercises.

Pain Education
Pain education helps people understand why they feel pain and how it works in the body. It teaches that pain isn’t always a sign of damage but can be influenced by many factors, including emotions, stress and previous injury. By learning about pain, people can feel more in control and less afraid of their symptoms and this can allow their body to start working better again.

Acupuncture
At Physio.je we use acupuncture as a means of reducing pain and enhancing other physiotherapy treatments. This is a therapeutic modality involving the insertion of fine single-use, pre-sterilised disposable needles; we practice an adaptation of Chinese acupuncture using current knowledge of anatomy, physiology and pathology, and the principles of scientific evidence-based medicine. Acupuncture can be effective in any pain condition. We are registered locally and with the Acupuncture Association of Charted Physiotherapists (AACP).
