Behind the Scenes with Jersey Cricket: Ben’s World Cup Qualifier Journey in Holland

For the past two weeks, our very own Ben has been on an incredible journey—serving as the lead physiotherapist for the Jersey Cricket Team during their World Cup Qualifier campaign in the Netherlands.

From the moment the team touched down, Ben was at the heart of the action. His role went far beyond the treatment table—he ran daily clinic sessions to manage any niggles or injuries, ensuring every player was physically primed for both training and match days. Post-game recovery, Ben led team pool sessions and recovery games to keep the squad fresh and firing.

Ben travelled with the team throughout the tournament, taking charge of warm-ups and strength & conditioning routines, and providing vital on-the-ground support during matches. Whether it was soft tissue massage, joint mobilisations, taping, or being ready for injury assessments, Ben was a constant presence, keeping the team in peak condition.

And what a tournament it was!

Jersey delivered some unforgettable performances, including a thrilling last-ball victory over Scotland—a historic first for the team. They also secured a strong win against Guernsey and pushed the Netherlands to the wire, with the Dutch chasing down Jersey’s total with just three balls to spare. Sadly, a rain-abandoned match against Italy and a tight Net Run Rate meant Jersey narrowly missed out on qualification.

Reflecting on the experience, Ben shared:

“Travelling with the Jersey Cricket team was thoroughly enjoyable. The buzz of being around elite athletes in a competitive environment was incredibly exciting. The win against Scotland is something I’ll remember for years— to have that dream of qualifying for a World Cup was beyond belief, and I was privileged to work with such a talented group of lads “
